Celebrate Homecoming with OGS

Join OGS for a Homecoming reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Hasselmann Alumni House. Following the reception, stay for dinner to honor the Miner Alumni Association’s 2018 award winners. It’s a great opportunity to connect with other OGS members and celebrate some of S&T’s most accomplished alumni. Watch for an invitation in early September. Register at giving.mst.edu/OGS.

S&T receives largest gift in its history

S&T has received the largest gift in university history: an in-kind donation of proprietary seismic data valued at $6.5 million from two Houston-based companies: Calico Jack Holdings LLC, founded by S&T alumnus Stephen Zeboski, GGph’81, and Zion Energy LLC, led by Zeboski’s business partner, Mike Looney. The gift, donated to the geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering department, will allow students to develop seismic interpretation and mapping skills using actual exploration data.

Second-largest fundraising year in university history reaches $22.6 million

Thanks to our donors

The second-largest fundraising year in university history concluded on June 30, with $22.6 million in charitable gifts and pledges — a 53 percent increase over the past fiscal year and a 112 percent increase over two years ago. The university’s largest fundraising year to date was 2007, when charitable gifts totaled more than $25.4 million.

Breaking ground on a better future

The Advanced Construction and Materials Laboratory will add 16,000 square feet of research space in Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall

S&T will break ground on the $6.5 million Advanced Construction and Materials Laboratory at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. The new lab is the final phase of a $10.5 million initiative advancing S&T’s leadership in infrastructure engineering. An investment from the University of Missouri System, major gifts from Clayco Inc., ARCO Construction Co., and the Sunderland Foundation (the charitable arm of Ash Grove Cement Co.) and funds from the College of Engineering and Computing, along with alumni support including a bequest from James A. Heidman, CE’65, MS CE’66, funded the lab.

Kummer Student Design Center

Fundraising completed for student design center expansion

Fundraising has been completed for an 8,000-square-foot addition to the Kummer Student Design Center, home of S&T’s 20 student design teams. Four major donors stepped forward to fund the expansion: Dick Arnoldy, CE’69, MS EMgt’73, retired chairman of ARCO Construction Co.; Brinkmann Constructors, founded by Bob Brinkmann, CE’71; Mike Bytnar, ME’68, MS EMgt’73, retired president of Nooter Corp.; and Gary Havener, Math’62, president of the Havener Companies. The design center is named for OGS founding member Fred Kummer, CE’55, who provided the naming gift. Watch for information on the groundbreaking.

The team behind our student design teams

Miners by Design

S&T’s student design teams share a partnership with Miners by Design, a group of donors who have contributed $500 or more annually. Members of Miners by Design provide student design teams with resources essential to competing against top universities around the world. Read more about becoming a member of the investment team backing innovation at S&T.

S&T moves to 'highly selective' admissions status

S&T recently became one of two public universities in Missouri designated as “highly selective” in admissions criteria. The Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education approved the status change in June. The other public school in the highly selective category is Truman State University. The new designation will help S&T attract highly qualified out-of-state and international students while spotlighting our reputation for excellence.

Electronic gift receipts go paperless

Missouri S&T and the Miner Alumni Association began using electronic gift receipts on July 1. Now donors have the advantage of immediate, paperless receipts acknowledging their giving. The change affects donors with email addresses in the university database. If you prefer to continue receiving paper receipts, just “opt out” of e-receipts by contacting Patti Chism at chismp@mst.edu or 573-341-4777.
