S&T dedicates Gibson Arena Miner athletes, coaches and university community members celebrated the dedication of Gibson Arena this past November. During a dinner at Hasselmann Alumni House, S&T Athletic Director Mark Mullin, Interim Chancellor Chris Maples, and members of the men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams thanked Kristie (Capps) Gibson, EMgt’74, and John Gibson, EMgt’74, for their major gift to fund the renovation of the arena. “We’re gathered to celebrate a great day for basketball, a great day for all our intercollegiate programs, a great day for Miner Athletics and a great day for Missouri S&T,” said Mullin. ![]() Got your green on? Visit our crowdfunding website or text FinishStrong to 91999 to give back on Miner Giving Day. ![]() OGS 40th anniversary celebration wins CASE Grand Gold Award The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has honored our OGS 40th anniversary and Solar Decathlon celebration with a 2019 Grand Gold Award in the category of special events. OGS also received two CASE Silver Awards for the Shillelagh newsletter and OGS timeline published to commemorate our 40th anniversary. Missouri S&T won a total of 14 awards in the CASE district-level competition, which includes colleges, universities and independent schools in Missouri, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. ![]() Helping students in the home stretch graduate Have you heard about the Miner Match? It’s a great opportunity to help S&T students finish their degrees. Between now and June 30, annual scholarship gifts will be matched dollar for dollar by the University of Missouri System and Missouri S&T. Much of this funding will support Finish Line Scholarships and Full Load to Finish Scholarships, which help students in the home stretch to graduation finish their degrees. With growth comes growing pains, and our large classroom space is at capacity. In response, S&T has announced plans to build a Classroom Learning Center addition to the Computer Science Building. With a 300-seat lecture hall and four 100-seat classrooms, the new center will serve the needs of all students and departments. OGS members honored for professional distinction OGS members Ernie Banks, ChE’81, and Dave Schepers, EE’75, received the Award of Professional Distinction during S&T commencement in December. Banks, the global operational excellence director for Curium Pharmaceutical, is a vice president of the Miner Alumni Association board of directors. His wife, Angela Banks, EE’87, is also a Miner. Schepers retired from Ameren Corp. in 2014 after a distinguished career in energy delivery technical services. His wife, Carol Schepers, CE’75, is also a Miner. Congratulations to these OGS members! Chancellor search update University of Missouri System President Mun Y. Choi announced on Feb. 14 that the search for Missouri S&T’s chancellor has been extended. Additional candidates will be brought to campus to meet with the search committee and other university representatives. “It is essential we find the best person possible to lead S&T in its ambitious plans for the future,” said Choi, who anticipates that the new chancellor will be in place by July. Interim Chancellor Chris Maples will continue to serve in the position until then. ![]() Nominate a Miner for our 2021 Alumni of Influence Missouri S&T is seeking nominations for our 2021 Alumni of Influence, the highest alumni honor bestowed by the university. Since the tradition began in 2011, S&T has honored 38 distinguished alumni. Now we’re preparing to recognize a new group of honorees during the university’s sesquicentennial celebration.
