Dear alumni, friends and colleagues: I welcome you to academic year 2021-22.
As we look back on the previous academic year, we are proud of what we accomplished. The department received a $10 million naming gift from Bipin and Linda Doshi in fall 2020, the largest gift ever to an academic program at S&T. With the gift, three positions were created, including an endowed chair and two professor positions. I was appointed Linda and Bipin Doshi Chair, and Dr. Xinhua Liang was appointed Linda and Bipin Doshi Associate Professor. We are currently seeking to fill the third endowed professor position with an emphasis on biomaterials and pharmaceutical engineering. We also received research awards totaling $3.24 million, a four-fold increase from the previous academic year. Our chemical engineering graduate program moved up 10 spots to 88 in rankings compiled by U.S. News & World Report. And we successfully conducted an ABET accreditation review and received a full six-year accreditation for our undergraduate program.
Our student and alumni mentoring program continues to be a success. Chemical Engineering Progress – AIChE’s flagship member magazine – published an article featuring the program. With support of the academy, we issued Chemical Engineering Finish Line Scholarships to our senior students and provided critical financial support during their final year. Our Chem-E-Car design team continued to shine last year. They won third place in AIChE’s annual national competition.
We are stronger when we work together. I invite you to offer your genuine support to help us build an exceptional chemical engineering program recognized for sustained excellence in research, discovery and education with strong global engagement. With warm regards, Hu Yang, Ph.D.
Hu Yang’s pioneering research uses nanoparticles to deliver plaque-busting drugs to specific cells to treat – and potentially cure – atherosclerosis.
Fateme Rezaei is developing an on-board vehicle fuel tank that makes its own renewable biofuel from food scraps or manure, saving pipeline and transportation costs.
S&T students are learning soft skills from chemical engineering alumni. Learn more about the program from Muthanna Al-Dahhan; Richard Bausell, ChE’70; and Charles Lyon, ChE’84, MS EMgt’91.
Join us in congratulating the six new academy members, recognized for their professional contributions, leadership and involvement with S&T.
Missouri S&T’s Chem-E-Car Design Team nabbed second place and the “Most Consistent” performance award in international competition. In addition, the student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) was recognized as Outstanding Student Chapter. Go team!
We are working to make outstanding contributions to our world through education and research. Contributions like Dr. Yang’s atherosclerosis research, which has the potential to help millions of people lead healthier lives. But clinical trials of this research and the other critical programs in our department require funding beyond what university support and grants can provide. Your annual support of chemical and biochemical engineering makes an important difference in our work. So, when you get a phone call from a student eager to share what’s happening on campus and in our department, we hope you’ll take the time to connect and catch up. And we hope you’ll give back to help us keep making a difference. 110 Bertelsmeyer Hall, 1101 North State St., Rolla, MO 65409 Copyright 2021, Curators of the University of Missouri | Unsubscribe |
