Dear alumni, students, faculty and staff:

Welcome to the 2023 fall semester. On campus it’s a season of electric energy and endless possibilities.

Happy belated first birthday to the Kummer College. Our college of innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development remains somewhat of an enigma. We’re not the College of Engineering and Computing, but we have engineering students. And we have business and economics students, yet we are not a traditional business or economics school.

We are the college that prepares leaders who understand how to leverage technology to create value for individuals, organizations and society. Individuals who can create engaging, technology-enabled products and services, launch and lead successful organizations, and develop prosperous economies. We are an outward-facing college that aims to create societal impact, which is why we house the core components of the innovation ecosystem at S&T in addition to three exceptional academic departments: business and information technology; economics; and engineering management and systems engineering.

I do hope you enjoy reading a few of the college’s highlights and continue to follow our transformation from an enigma to a model engaged college.

Sincerely,

Tim Faley
Interim Vice Provost and Dean

Business student sets sights on innovation-driven future

Lauren Moersch knew she wanted to be a business major in college and eventually pursue a career in real estate. Economics hosts college's first public forum

More than 100 people attended the Kummer College’s first public forum, hosted by economics in April to discuss how the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank could have been avoided by leaders with a strong sense of accountability and a cross-disciplinary educational background. Planning is underway for future events that connect S&T students with industries that are seeking future leaders prepared by integrated, cross-disciplinary education.
