Dear alumni, friends and colleagues,
|
A new academic year is now underway at Missouri S&T, and we're excited for what lies ahead for mining and explosives engineering. Our students, faculty, staff and alumni continue to do great work advancing the department and making meaningful contributions to the mining and construction industries.
I’ve especially appreciated the continued support from our alumni. Many of you have generously volunteered your time to help with recruitment throughout Missouri and beyond. Your involvement makes a real difference, and we’re truly grateful for your commitment.
We remain focused on giving our students every opportunity to succeed through improved labs, hands-on learning and conference travel. These experiences help prepare them for the field and are made possible in large part by the support of alumni.
|
We also love hearing from you, as your stories inspire our students and strengthen our community. Please send your updates to alumni@mst.edu, and take a moment to update your information on the Miner Alumni Association website.
If you’d like to talk more about how you can support the department, whether through mentoring, giving or sharing your experience, I’d be happy to connect. Feel free to email me at kwamea@mst.edu or call (573) 341-6438. And if you’re ever near campus, I’d love to say hello and show you what’s happening in the department.

Leading the way for AI in mining
|
Did you know that our department is making artificial intelligence a key part of our mining engineering curriculum and research? Students are learning to apply AI in the classroom — from writing feasibility reports to optimizing blast designs and process flow sheets — while faculty are developing tools for robotic mine rescue, real-time miner tracking, safer operations and sustainable metal recovery. We’re excited to keep you in the loop as our AI initiatives progress!
