I'm pleased to share that Chancellor Mo Dehghani, professor Melody Lo and I recently presented at the University of Missouri Board of Curators meeting, where they approved two plans that will significantly impact many of us in Kummer College.

First, our economics department received approval to offer its first master's degree, addressing the need for technically trained strategic decision-makers who can drive economic growth in Missouri and beyond. The degree is a Master of Science in Economics and Innovation (MEI), featuring two tracks: value-driven innovation and energy economics.

The program is particularly timely, considering the global challenges requiring effective energy portfolio management across all forms of energy. S&T is suited to contribute and take leadership in energy and critical minerals, as well as energy storage systems to help meet the global demands of increased power consumption.

The second approved plan is our new bio-innovation center known as the Bioplex, which is S&T's largest capital project to date at $130 million. Our students interested in biotechnology, biomedical fields, health informatics and health sciences will directly benefit. Kummer College faculty and students will leverage relationships across campus to develop new ventures and contribute to innovation in life sciences.

Kummer College faculty, staff and students are adept at engaging in complex business, regulatory and societal issues. We are excited to study and help resolve such issues, which play an extremely important role in both the energy and biotech sectors of our economy.

Sincerely,

Jim Sterling.
