Dear alumni, friends and colleagues: I am humbled and honored to be appointed as the new department chair, and I pledge to lead the continuing effort to build a positive learning and work environment. Together, we can unlock the potential of students, faculty, and staff, promote inclusion and equity, and embrace academic and cultural differences.
My vision is to build a top chemical and biochemical engineering program by creating sustainable excellence in undergraduate and graduate education and research. To accomplish this vision, we count on faculty, staff, students and dedicated alumni. The engaged and steadfast support from the Academy of Chemical Engineers and Industrial Advisory Council (IAC) will also play a critical role in department development and student success.
In the past year, our faculty and students have accomplished so much despite the unprecedented difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. We remain committed to the high-quality education that our undergraduate and graduate students merit. We are stronger when we work together. I invite you to offer your genuine support to help our program grow and our faculty and students thrive. Sincerely, Hu Yang, Ph.D.
Yang’s research at S&T combines engineering, materials science, medicine and pharmaceutics. The results could mean great things for the future of patient care.
Christi Patton Luks, teaching professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and acting department chair prior to Yang’s arrival, was recognized for her contributions to the chemical engineering field.
Monday Okoronkwo, assistant professor of chemical and biochemical engineering, lent his rheometer to Anthony Okafor, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, for a research project. That simple act led to a research partnership that could benefit manufacturing, farmers and the environment.
Researchers reclaim catalysts more easily than traditional methods, saving time, effort and money. The research was published in the journal Reaction Chemistry and Engineering.
Missouri S&T’s Chem-E-Car Design Team nabbed second place and the “Most Consistent” performance award in international competition. In addition, the student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) was recognized as Outstanding Student Chapter. Go team!
We are working to help our students and faculty reach their full potential and to make outstanding contributions to our world, as many of you have done. Your annual support of chemical and biochemical engineering makes an important difference in our work. So when you get a phone call from a student eager to share what’s happening on campus and in our department, we hope you’ll take the time to connect and catch up. And we hope you’ll help us keep making a difference in our students’ lives by giving back. 110 Bertelsmeyer Hall, 1101 North State St., Rolla, MO 65409 Copyright 2020, Curators of the University of Missouri | |
