Dear Miner,
We are excited to have you as part of the S&T community and would like to take this opportunity to remind members that Missouri S&T has been designated drug-free and the consumption of alcohol is permitted only under certain conditions. Alcohol, cannabis (regardless of medical status), and other drugs are strictly prohibited on campus. In accordance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989, we have compiled our statement of compliance and important policy information for your review:
Missouri S&T is a JED Campus committed to the health and well-being of our community. Research suggests that there is an association between alcohol use and college student depression. Being proactive about your health and well-being can create a lasting, positive impact on you, your future, and the campus community. We are pleased to provide numerous resources to support your health and well-being.
In support of proactive behavior, we highlight the S&T Responsible Student Action Protocol that encourages seeking medical assistance for circumstances involving significant intoxication by taking a health and well-being approach. Also, the Good Samaritan Law (Mo. Rev. Stat. § 195.205) is designed to save lives by protecting anyone from certain crimes who calls 911 in good faith to get help.
Signs of alcohol poisoning and other substance overdoses may include vomiting, confusion, slowed, shallow, or labored breathing, blue-tinged skin, choking, irregular heart rate, and loss of consciousness. If you suspect someone is experiencing a drug or alcohol overdose, place them in the recovery position and call 911 immediately.
