Kummer Student Programs

Newsletter

Dear friends and supporters,

Welcome back to the Kummer Student Programs newsletter, a twice-yearly message for us to communicate with everyone who has been involved with our programs, and those who hope to be in the future.

It’s hard to believe we are already in our fourth year of existence, but when we pause and look what has already been done we are amazed and excited for where we will continue to expand our impact!

We'd like to thank the incredible faculty, staff, alumni and community members for your dedication and support. Because of you, our programs, events and partnerships will continue to grow and thrive. If you aren't involved yet and would like to be, please complete the survey.

I am so proud of the amazing accomplishments our students have been able to complete this semester, and I hope you enjoy reading about them as much as I did. All of us in Kummer Student Programs look forward to our continued partnerships.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rachel Kohman
Director, Kummer Student Programs

S&T event challenges students to improve energy storage

Noah Johnson, a rising sophomore in mechanical engineering from Washington, Illinois, won first place in S&T’s first Micro Grand Challenge in late April. The challenge gave students just a few hours on a Sunday afternoon to propose a way of storing the energy generated by sun and wind without relying on lithium-ion batteries.

Challenge accepted!

During the fall semester, student teams competed in the Campus Impact Challenge  at Missouri S&T.

The Campus Impact Challenge requires students to work in teams with just 24 hours to diagnose a campus or local issue, then present a solution. The winning team was Marshall Reinkemeyer and Renton Smartt. Second place went to Yaseen Abdalla, Kilee Sikora, Auston Obsuth, Dipson Aryal and Ayden Dominguez. Third place went to Neil Maxwell, Lorenzo Gutting and Lokesh Das. Congratulations!

Certifying experiences

First-year Kummer Vanguard Scholars will complete an experience in the spring semester that encourages them to pursue a training opportunity of their choice.

While there will be host of certifying experiences provided by Kummer Student Programs in collaboration with campus partners, such as CPR training and Mental Wellbeing Ambassador Training, we are still seeking more opportunities!

A certifying experience should have a "certificate of completion" once successfully participating in a learning or training that requires 90 minutes or more of participation.

If you or someone you know is interested in providing training or creating a certification course, please let us know.

This does not need to be a formal external certifying body certificate.

Badges of Entrepreneurial Excellence

All Missouri S&T students are invited to participate in the Badges of Entrepreneurial Excellence program to be recognized for their achievements beyond the classroom. The badges are an iconic celebration of participation in experiences designed to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
