ROLLA, Mo. – Five members of Missouri S&T's track & field and cross country teams – including four who scored at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships earlier this month – have been named to the College Sports Communicators' academic all-district team for the 2022-23 school year.

Grace Giesler (Owasso, OK/Owasso), who matched the highest finish among the Miners at the GLVC meet with a second place showing in the steeplechase, was named along with Jessica Rhoads (Holts Summit, MO/Jefferson City), Annmarie Tyson (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy), Emma Puetz (Rolla, MO/Rolla) and Aubrie Caldwell (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) to the squad.  All five will be eligible for Academic All-America honors; that team will be announced in late June.

Giesler, an architectural engineering major at S&T, had the team's best time in the steeplechase of 11:31.31 at the GLVC to finish second, which was also a personal best for her.  She also ran in the 1,500- and 5,000-meter events during the outdoor season and recorded S&T's best time in the 3,000-meters in the indoor season of 10:36.37.  She was also one of the top runners for the Miners during the cross country season

Rhoads, who is majoring in civil engineering, established a new school record in the discus throw during the season with a mark of 145-6 and finished fourth in the event at the GLVC Championships at 139-7.  She also recorded a trio of third place finishes at conference meets during the season, doing so in the outdoor hammer throw and indoor weight throw and shot put.

Tyson, a technical communications major at Missouri S&T, closed out her career with a sixth place finish in the high jump at the GLVC Championships in both the indoor and outdoor season.  During the 2022 campaign, Tyson earned a berth to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships following a year where she won the high jump competition at three meets and had a second place finish at the GLVC Indoor Championships.

Puetz recorded the second-fastest time in program history in the 5,000-meter run during the Miners' trip to California in April, as she ran a time of 17:46.41 in the event.  She would go on to finish sixth in that event at the GLVC Championships after taking eighth in the mile at the conference meet during the indoor season.  Puetz is majoring in geology and geophysics at Missouri S&T.

Caldwell was one of the top runners for the cross country team during the 2022 season, with a seasonal-best finish of fifth at the Border War Championships and a 14th-place showing at the Southwest Baptist Invitational to open the season.  She is majoring in civil engineering at Missouri S&T.
