ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's basketball team – as well as three members of that squad – have earned academic honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the work done in the classroom during the 2022-23 school year.

As a team, the Miners are one of more than 300 collegiate program nationwide – covering all levels of college basketball – to earn the NABC's Team Academic Award that is presented to teams that finish the academic year with a 3.0 or better grade point average.  The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student-athletes who finished the year with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average.

The three Miners to earn the honor – which was afforded to over 1,800 student-athletes – were Kaden Froebe (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln), Kelly Vaughn (Mount Vernon, MO/Mount Vernon) and Micah Johnson (Ankeny, IA/Centennial).

Vaughn, the lone senior among the three, is majoring in engineering management and played in 17 games during the 2022-23 season in primarily a reserve role; he did make one start during the year in the Miners' final home game of the season.  In his S&T career, Vaughn appeared in 62 games and recorded 16 assists and nine steals during that time.

Johnson, who will be a senior in the upcoming 2023-24 along with Froebe, is majoring in computer engineering at S&T and averaged 2.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in 27 games last season.  He made seven starts during the season and over his career has shot 36.5 percent from three-point range and 73.5 percent from the free throw line.

Froebe led the Great Lakes Valley Conference in steals per game as he made 49 in 27 games to earn a spot on the GLVC's All-Defensive team for the second year in succession.  During the 2022-23 season, Froebe also averaged in double figures in the scoring column with an average of 10.4 points per game – he has scored in double figures in all three seasons at S&T and is averaging 10.6 points a game for his career – while accumulating 204 assists, 148 steals and 25 blocked shots.
