ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's track & field team posted its highest point total in eight seasons at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships and also won a major award as Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) was selected as the Co-Freshman of the Year by the league coaches on the final day of competition at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Miners finished in fifth place with 72 points, their most since scoring 81 at the 2015 meet.   Wright accounted for 17 points on an individual basis and was also part of two scoring relay teams on Saturday as she shared the award with Lewis' Khristel Martindale, who was also selected as the conference's Athlete of the Year.  S&T ended up seven points in back of Southwest Baptist, who passed the Miners when it won the 4x400-meter relay to close the meet.

"The dedication that our young men and women in our program have shown throughout the year was on display for these last three days and we couldn't be prouder of the results they achieved," Meinecke said.  "It was an exciting weekend and our teams want to thank all of those who helped and supported us throughout."

Wright, who finished second in the heptathlon earlier in the meet, also recorded two scoring efforts in the finals of both hurdle events on Saturday.  She finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.94 seconds, then later in the day took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.93.
