About Irina V. Ivliyeva

Irina V. Ivliyeva is a Curators' Distinguished Teaching Professor of Russian at the Arts, Languages, and Philosophy department. Prior to coming to S&T in 1997, she taught for eight years at the Moscow Power Engineering University (MPEI). She holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a master’s degree in philology from the Moscow State University.

Ivliyeva’s research interests include Russian word formation synthesis, comparative semantics, instructional innovation, and second language acquisition. Ivliyeva has authored three monographs and dozens of articles appearing in national and international linguistic journals. A recipient of numerous teaching awards at UMR/S&T, Irina was named Missouri S&T Woman of the Year in 2012 and was dubbed an Honorary Knight of St. Patrick in 2011.

Throughout her career at S&T, Irina has contributed significantly to the broader S&T campus through service on the Faculty Recruitment and Retention Council (FRRC), by chairing the Humanities Discipline Specific Curricula Committee (2008 to 2016) and the Outstanding Teaching Award Committee for a number of years.   Ivliyeva served as chair of the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) https://cafe.mst.edu/ from June 2019 to June 2022.
