ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T has its sixth Academic All-America selection for the 2020-21 school year as Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) was named to the men's track & field second team on the squad selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Swadley, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering at S&T, was named as the men's track & field recipient of the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for the second straight season in 2021 following a season in which he was chosen as the Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year in the GLVC after the Miners captured the conference championship.  Swadley tied or broke three school records in the throws during the 2021 campaign, setting new marks in the outdoor shot put with a  mark of 58-7½ that earned him a berth to the NCAA Division II Championships and a throw of 173-1 in the discus.

Swadley also tied his own school record in the indoor shot put with a mark of 56-9¼ and became just the second individual in GLVC history to sweep the shot put, discus and hammer throw at the same conference meet.  He would go on to place 11th in the shot put at the NCAA Division II Championships in May.

He was also named earlier this summer to the GLVC's All-Academic team for the third time and was a recipient of the Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar Award for the 2020-21 academic year as he landed that honor for the second time in his S&T career.

Swadley joins fellow S&T student-athletes Paal Benum (men's soccer), Payton McAlister (football), Kyle Urich (football), Will Hayes (baseball) and Andy Huffman (swimming) as Academic All-America recipients from the past year.  Missouri S&T has now received 109 Academic All-America awards in the history of the program, with 10 of them being part of the track & field and cross country programs.
